About Mini Rogue
Mini Rogue is a 9-card roguelike by Paolo Di Stefano and Gabriel Gendron, with art by Gendron. Alone, you go down through a deep dungeon to recover a famous ruby called The Og’s Blood from the bottom floor. Random events and encounters make every descent different. It took several prizes in the 2016 9-Card Nanogame Design Contest, including first place for best new designers.
The Mini Rogue print and play file is still offered on Mountain Gold Games’ Gumroad page for any price, including zero. It is a good pick for solo players from age 10 who like dungeon crawlers but want a game that sets up in a minute and fits in a pocket.
How to play in one minute
- Set up your character card and tokens to track health, gold, food, armour and experience, then lay out the room cards for the first floor.
- Move from room to room. Each room is an encounter: a monster, a trap, treasure, a merchant, an event or a place to rest.
- Fight monsters with dice. Damage, levels and armour change the odds as you gain experience.
- Spend food as you go deeper and gold at merchants. Decide when to push on and when to rest.
- Reach the bottom floor and defeat what guards The Og’s Blood to win. If your health runs out, the run is over: note your score and try again.
