About Lost in the Woods
You are a travelling merchant invited to the village of Grimgrave, and the only way there runs through the dark Terremal Woods. By nightfall you realise you have been walking in circles. Fae laughter rings through a clearing littered with the lost boxes of earlier travellers, and a scroll warns you that the fae trap anyone who cannot solve their games by morning.
Ashleigh Kay of Minor Arcana Games designed this paper escape room around twelve puzzle boxes. Each answer is a direction, and together they form the larger puzzle of the way out. The boxes can be solved in any order and some inform each other, which makes it a relaxed solo evening or a good puzzle for a pair. The itch.io page is “name your own price”, so you can download it for nothing or leave a tip.
How to play in one minute
- Download the Easy Printing PDF and print all 18 pages.
- Read the introduction, the invitation and the lost traveller’s scroll; they tell you what to look for.
- Work through the twelve puzzle boxes in any order. Each card is double-sized, so read both halves.
- Use the answers to follow the fae symbols from one to the next.
- If you trace the full path out of the woods, you escape before dawn. Use the hints first, then check the solutions.
What’s in the PDF
- Three versions on itch.io: Easy Printing (18 US Letter pages, front and back of each card on the same page), a low-resolution PDF and a PDF for professional printing or postcards.
- The easy-print version is mostly black line art, so a home printer is fine.
- Hints are arranged in two columns, from gentle to specific, followed by each box’s solution and the complete solution.
- No app, locks or scissors needed; a pencil and scrap paper help.
