About IceToids

IceToids is a small exploration race designed by Andrew Looney and given away as the Looney Labs Holiday Gift for 2018. The board is a 4x4 grid of tiles laid face down. As players move onto them, tiles flip to reveal arrows that speed you up and icons in the four player colours. Your goal is to get your three pieces onto the three tiles that show your colour.

It was written for Looney Pyramids, but the print-and-play sheet includes flat tokens that replace them, so you only need a printer and scissors. Looney Labs suggests storing the set in a mint tin. It plays with 2 to 4 people and suits families who like short abstract games with a bit of luck.

How to play in one minute

  1. Shuffle the 16 tiles face down into a 4x4 grid. Each player picks a colour and a different edge tile as their Home Tile.
  2. On your turn, either move one piece one space, or turn one piece to point in a new direction.
  3. A piece moves where it points, or along an arrow on its tile. Pieces off the board can only enter at your Home Tile.
  4. When a piece lands on a hidden tile, flip it and orient it as you like. Pointing pieces can push others along, even off the board.
  5. The first player with all three pieces on the three tiles showing their colour wins.
