About this printable chess board
This printable chess board from PrintablePaper.net (Savetz Publishing) is a complete paper chess set: a red-and-blue checkered board split over two Letter pages so the squares come out a usable size, a sheet of black and white pieces to cut out, and a page of instructions that explains the starting position and how each piece moves.
Chess needs no introduction, but a paper set has its uses: a travel game that weighs nothing, a classroom set for a chess club, or a quick replacement when a knight has gone missing. For the full rules, including castling, en passant, promotion and how a game ends, read our chess rules page.
How to use it
- Print all three pages; card stock makes the pieces easier to handle.
- Tape the two board halves together so you get a square 8x8 board, with a light square at each player’s bottom right.
- Cut out the sixteen white and sixteen black pieces.
- Set up as the instructions show (rooks in the corners, queen on her own colour) and play; white moves first.
