About Purzon: The Travelling Merchant
Purzon is a cat merchant with a cart full of food, knowledge and technology goods, and a solo tile-laying game by Lachlan Kadick. You lay hexagonal road tiles in front of Purzon as he travels the realm, and wherever two buildings of the same kind end up side by side he can sell a matching cube. Sell everything before the tiles run out and the day is a success.
It placed 11th overall at the BoardGameGeek 2022 Solitaire Print and Play Contest and second in the explore-and-experience category. With a 6+ age rating and a ten-minute play time it is one of the easiest contest games to bring to the family table, and the colourful art is by the designer.
How to play in one minute
- Shuffle the 24 hex tiles, place one with Purzon on it, draw three specialty-item tokens at random and keep the 30 cubes as your inventory.
- Each turn move Purzon along his road to show where he is heading, then draw a tile and place it so every road connects or leads to open ground. A tile that cannot be placed is discarded.
- Move Purzon along the new road to the next intersection.
- If three connected buildings match a specialty item and you have the goods, place the item there. If two buildings of the same type touch, sell a matching cube on the intersection.
- Win if every cube is sold before the tiles run out; the number of specialty items sold rates your day, from “time for a new cat-alogue” to “a purr-fect day”.
