About Citadels
Citadels is Bruno Faidutti’s card game of building a medieval city while secretly choosing a new character each round: the Assassin, the Thief, the King, the Merchant and others. Asmodee’s Print & Play site splits the free Citadels print and play into two files, “Citadels Demo Rules” and “Citadels Cards”, both listed under Games.
It is a classic for groups who enjoy bluffing and second-guessing more than long-term planning. Roles change hands every round, so the leader is always a target. The page shows the 2016 edition; the full game takes 2 to 8 players from age 10.
How to play in one minute
- Everyone starts with some gold and a few district cards. The player holding the crown starts the role draft.
- Each round, players secretly pick a character card from a shrinking pile and pass the rest along.
- Characters are called in number order. On your turn, take gold or draw district cards, then pay to build one district in front of you.
- Use your character’s power: kill or rob another character, swap hands, collect taxes, or take the crown for the next round.
- When one player completes a city of the target size, finish the round. Score district values and bonuses; the highest total wins.
What’s in the PDF
- “Citadels Cards”: a set of character and district cards to cut out.
- “Citadels Demo Rules”: a shortened rulebook for the demo.
- Downloads open after you sign in with a free My asmodee account. We could not open the files, so the page count and card count are not listed here.
- Print the cards in colour on card stock. Any coins or counters work as gold.
