About this printable Shut the Box sheet
Shut the Box is a traditional dice game, usually played with a wooden box of hinged tiles numbered 1 to 9. This printable Shut the Box game from PrintablePaper.net (Savetz Publishing) replaces the box with a pencil: each player gets a row of numbers to cross out and a score box, three players per sheet, plus a page of rules.
Every roll is a small addition problem, which makes it a good maths game for children, and it works as a solo game too. Keep a stack of sheets with a pair of dice in the holiday bag.
How to use it
- Roll two dice and add them up.
- Cross out remaining numbers that make that total: a 6 can be 6, or 5 and 1, or 4 and 2, or 1, 2 and 3.
- Keep rolling until you cannot make the total, then write the sum of your uncrossed numbers as your score.
- Lowest score wins; crossing out all nine (“shutting the box”) wins outright.
