About this printable Jungle game
The Jungle Game, also called Dou Shou Qi or animal chess, is a traditional Chinese board game and one of the best first strategy games for children. This printable from PrintablePaper.net (Savetz Publishing) gives you the 7x9 board with two rivers and a den guarded by three traps at each end, eight animals per side, and a page ranking the animals and explaining the rules.
Each animal captures animals of equal or lower rank. The elephant beats everything except the rat; the rat, the weakest, is the only one that swims and the only one that can take the elephant. Lions and tigers leap across the rivers.
How to use it
- Print the three pages and cut out the sixteen animals.
- Place each animal on its matching picture square.
- Red moves first. Move one animal one square orthogonally; capture an animal of equal or lower rank. Any animal in an enemy trap can be captured.
- Win by entering the opponent’s den or capturing all their animals.
