About Under Falling Skies (9-card edition)
Under Falling Skies started as a 9-card solo game by Tomáš Uhlíř for the 2019 9-Card Nanogame Print & Play Design Contest. It swept the contest, including first place for best overall game and best solitaire game, and Czech Games Edition later turned it into a boxed game. The Under Falling Skies print and play original is still free on BoardGameGeek, uploaded by the designer.
An alien mothership is coming down on the city. From your underground base you have to finish your research before the base is destroyed or the mothership arrives. It suits solo players from age 8 who like tight dice puzzles, and a game fits on a small table.
How to play in one minute
- Lay out the cards as the rules show: enemy ships and the mothership at the top, your underground base at the bottom.
- Each round, roll your dice and place them one by one on rooms of your base, with only one die per column.
- Placing a die moves every enemy ship in that column down. High numbers give stronger effects but bring ships closer.
- Use room effects to shoot ships, deploy robots, generate energy and advance research.
- At the end of each round the mothership descends. Reach the end of the research track to win, before your base is wrecked or the mothership lands.
