About Unlock! The Elite
Unlock! is the cooperative escape-room card game designed by Cyril Demaegd for Space Cowboys. The Elite is the 20-card demo adventure the publisher gives away so you can try the system before buying a box. You are taken to a man in a beige suit in the hallway of a Las Vegas hotel casino: behind him is the hideout of someone suspected of running illegal games and rigged bets, and your investigative team has to get in and out.
It is the best first print-and-play escape room for a family or a small group of friends, because the free app does the timing, the hints and the code checking. The one-page read-me on the demos page explains the kit and warns you not to open the other files until you are ready to play.
How to play in one minute
- Print and cut the 20 cards, then download the free Unlock! app on a phone or tablet and choose The Elite.
- Read the introduction card, flip the location card and start the app’s timer.
- Cards carry numbers: when you spot a number on a card or in a picture, find that card in the deck and flip it over.
- Combine a blue card with a red card by adding their numbers; if the total matches a card, reveal it. Enter codes for machines in the app.
- Wrong guesses cost time. Escape before the timer runs out to win.
What’s in the PDF
- 8 pages with the 20 cards of The Elite, on a custom page size (about 21 x 27 cm) that prints fine on A4 or Letter with “fit to page”.
- A separate 6-page PDF with the 10-card tutorial, which teaches the rules without a rulebook.
- Colour is needed, since card colours matter. Print on card stock or glue onto thin cardboard, then cut.
- The free Unlock! app (iOS and Android) is required.
