About Unlock! The Temple of Ra

The Temple of Ra has just been excavated in the Valley of the Kings and you are certain it hides an amazing treasure. Nobody listens to your theories, so you sneak in at nightfall between two patrols. After a long tunnel, your flashlight lights up the anteroom, and the game begins.

This is a 24-card demo for Unlock!, the cooperative escape-room card game designed by Cyril Demaegd and published by Space Cowboys. It is free to download from the publisher’s demos page, alongside The Elite, 5th Avenue, The Ghost Stone and a tutorial. Egypt is a crowd-pleaser with children of ten and up, and the pyramid model and altar puzzles are a nice showcase of how Unlock! hides clues in its artwork.

How to play in one minute

  1. Print and cut the 24 cards; install the free Unlock! app and choose The Temple of Ra.
  2. Read the introduction, flip the anteroom card and start the timer.
  3. Find hidden numbers and letters in the illustrations and reveal the matching cards.
  4. Add a blue card and a red card together to use an object on something; if the sum exists in the deck, flip it.
  5. Enter codes in the app when you open a mechanism. Finish before the countdown ends.

What’s in the PDF

  • 8 pages, 24 cards on a custom page size near A4 (print “fit to page” on A4 or Letter).
  • Colour printing is required; card stock or lamination helps because cards are handled a lot.
  • Expect spoilers if you flip through the file: print it without reading, then cut and stack.
  • The free Unlock! app for iOS or Android handles the timer, hints and penalties.
