About the Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt
Britni Vigil runs Play Party Plan, a party-games blog, and this Christmas light scavenger hunt started as something her family did on a December car ride. It is not a clue-based treasure hunt: it is a “how many can you find” list of decorations and light displays to tick off as you drive or walk around a neighbourhood known for its lights. Carolers, inflatables and the rest count if you can argue they fit; the post mentions letting a Star Wars display pass as carolers.
It works for a quiet family evening with snacks in the car, or as a party game: split guests into teams of four to six, hand each team a card and a pen, give them 30 minutes (an hour if they drive) and have them photograph each find. The team with the most verified items wins. The printable is free, but you get it by entering your first name and email in the form at the bottom of the post; the PDF arrives on screen and by email.
How to play in one minute
- Sign up on the page, download the PDF and print one card per car or per player.
- Give everyone a pen and, for teams, a phone to take photos.
- Drive or walk around a lit-up neighbourhood and tick items as you spot them.
- Use your judgement on borderline decorations; that is half the fun.
- First to complete the list, or most items when time is up, wins. Hot chocolate for everyone after.
