About Dixit
Dixit is Jean-Louis Roubira’s party game of dreamy pictures and half-told stories, illustrated by Marie Cardouat and first published by Libellud in 2008. Asmodee’s Print & Play site offers a free Dixit print and play file called “Rules & Cards”, the easiest legal way to get printable Dixit cards at home.
It works best with friends or family from age 8 who like guessing and wordplay more than strategy. The trick is to be clever, not obvious: a clue everyone understands scores you nothing.
How to play in one minute
- Each player takes a hand of picture cards. The first player is the storyteller.
- The storyteller picks a card, places it face down and says a word, phrase or sound about it.
- Everyone else picks the card from their hand that best fits the clue and hands it over face down.
- The storyteller shuffles the cards and lays them out face up. Everyone else secretly votes for the storyteller’s card.
- If all or none of the players find it, the storyteller scores nothing and the others score. Otherwise the storyteller and the correct guessers score, and decoy cards earn points for their owners. The role passes on, and the best score at the end wins.
What’s in the PDF
- One “Rules & Cards” file: the rules and a set of illustrated Dixit cards to cut out. The demo may hold fewer cards than the boxed game, which supports up to 8 players.
- Downloads open after you sign in with a free My asmodee account. We could not open the file, so the page count is not listed here.
- Print in colour; the artwork is the whole game. Card stock makes the cards easier to shuffle.
